Shimla:The Queen of Hills

Shimla is capital of Himachal Pradesh.Shimla is also known as “queen of hills”. Located in north-west Himalayas,dropped in forest of pine,rhododendron and oak,experiances pleasant summer and cold snowy winters. City is famous for buildings styled in tudorbethan and neo-gothic architechure reminiscent of colonial era.Shimla is named after Goddess Shyamala devi,an incarnation of the Hindu Goddess Kali.

Jakhu Hill is the highest peak and offers a beautiful view of the town and of the snow-covered Himalayas. At the top of the Hill, is an old temple of Hanuman, which is also the home of countless playful monkeys waiting to be fed by all visitors.

Jakhu Hill is the main attraction for visitors,which is highest point in shimla is the next destination. Leaving the usual route, which is from the ridge, you will take up the path from Sanjauli. This will allow you to enjoy the beauty of thick wood of oak, rhododendron and cedar. From atop the Jakhoo hills, watch the sun set with all its splendour.Dedicated to Lord Hanuman Jakhu temple is a century old spiritual edifice. Situated at the highest peak of Jakhu hill at an altitude of 2.5 kms, the Jakhu temple attracts devotees as well as adventure freaks who venture into trekking and mountaineering activities organized by the Himachal Pradesh government.

The Jakhu Temple being situated at a height of around 2 Km from the base of Jakhu hill, a trek of 2 kms through dense pine forests is required to reach it. An alternative can be hiring ponies from the base of hills for a to and fro ride to temple. Walking sticks are also available at the shops on the base of Jakhu hill.

Bheemakali temple of shimla is very popular tourist attraction this architectural wonder is one of the representative of 51Shakti peeths.This temple is dedicated to goddess Durga  known as Bheemakali.The unique thing about this temple is that the style of architecture used to build it is a unique amalgamation of both Hinduism and Buddhism.It is built of wood and not less than architechural masterplace.The temple is dedicated to this great female power who was called Bhimakali.Palaces of royal families are located near the temple of Shimla.

Shree “Sankat mochan temple” is situated at distance of 5k.m.from shimla and is located at Taradevi on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway.This temple is easily approachable.temple is surrounded by lush green forest,emerald meadows,the magestic lofty mountains in the background which is offered a very soothing and meditative atmosphere stirring the soul to enjoy the bliss of nature,a gift from god to all of us.The Temple complex also includes a three storey building  which is partly used as the “Langer Hall” where on every Sunday all the visitors are served with prashad / Langer Below the langer hall are the “Marriage Halls”  which are rented out on nominal charges  to  the parties who intend to ceremonize marriages here and it is a  regular feature of the temple  throughout the year.  The other half of this building houses the residential area given to the priests  and  the domestic  staff working in the temple.  For  the convenience and facilities of the visitors, the temple offers a ‘Prasad’ shop and also has a Govt Ayurvedic Dispensary.  

 TARADEVI TEMPLE 

“Ma Bhagvati Taradevi Temple” is located on Tarav Parvat in the western side of Shimla Town about 15km from Shimla situated by the side of Kalka-Shimla National Highway Shoghi.The road mendering uphill through the sweet smelling pine forests and lush green meadows with the cool gentle breeze touching one softly infusing a freshness and vigor in the devotees,pilgrims and tourist visiting this holy shrine.Location of temple on the top of hill makes it appear that Goddess Ma Tara Devi seems to keep everyone under the protective gaze,showring innumerable blessing on her worshippers.It offers a calm peaceful and tranquil countyside.
