The Motorola CLIQ is one of the most anticipated devices of the year. Let’s see if its worth the hype.
Advantages:
* MotoBlur is superb! It’s intuitive, easy to use, great to look at, and full of functionality. In my opinion, MotoBlur is even better then HTC’s Sense UI.
* A 3.5mm headphone jack is included. Android is great for music and the addition of a standard audio jack is great.
* 5 megapixel autofocus is a very nice feature. Motorola devices usually have good image quality, I expect the same from the CLIQ.
* Battery should last at least one day.
* Fantastic full QWERTY keyboard.
* 3.1 inch glass capactive touchscreen.
* D-pad next to keyboard (Note: The d-pad being on the left is another plus as well; its great for gaming).
* Has a microUSB and microSD slots.
* Has a lot of features such as 3G, Wi-Fi, and GPS.
* Nice thin profile for a phone with a slide-out keyboard.
Dis-advantages:
* No camera flash.
* Display is not multitouch.
* Same old Qualcomm 528MHz processor is being used. This may impact the phones performance.
* Currently, Android phones are limited to a display with HVGA resolution and 262 144 colors.
* No UMA.
* Only records QVGA videos.
* The CLIQ only has 256MB RAM and 512MB ROM.
* Costs $199.99 on a two-year contract.
Verdict:
The Motorola CLIQ is a great start. It packs a lot of features in a very nice body. Features like the full keyboard, large touchscreen, 5mp camera, 3.5mm headphone jack, and 3G capability will make the CLIQ a very desirable handset. Looks can be deceiving though.Unfortunately, T-Mobile’s new gem has quite a few cons, from the Qualcomm processor and pathetic memory to the screen and camera limitations. Competitors are throwing phones out that record HD video and others with WVGA displays. Now, if the phone was to be $149.99 or less, I wouldn’t care as much about an old processor or low memory.
