Steps to check Email received is True or Hoax:

1. Investigate the sender. A good practice is to be leery of all from people you don’t know. If the story presented is such a big deal, why are they wasting time emailing it to people they don’t know?
2. Check the “CC:” section of the email. If it’s been forwarded and re-forwarded, chances are it’s a hoax because these emails typically end with, “Forward to everyone in your address book!” (Or you’ll have bad luck for 7 days.”
3. Look for telltale signs such as words in ALL CAPS or statements claiming that it’s “not urban legend.” This usually means just the opposite.
4. Copy and paste the title of the email into the Internet search bar along with the words “hoax” or “’urban legend.” If it is a fake, there are many people online complaining about it.
5. Search Snopes.com’s database of Internet rumors. It provides a quick way to spot a joke email and all variations of it.
