Steps to make an independent film:

1. Write or find a great script:
One of the most overlooked aspects of independent film making is the script. Big name actors or no name actors will not make a bad script into a good movie. Get a script that isn’t black and white in its conflict and characters. Reality is just a bunch of shades of gray; people expect a movie to be the same.
2. Get a decent camera:
You cannot make a good film with a lousy camera. Investigate cameras online and find out what you need to make a good shot. Invest the most of your money that you have for the movie in the camera.
3. Film it:
One thing to remember about a low budget film is the low budget. The thing that wastes the most money when making a film is time. You usually have some equipment rented, you might be paying actors for their time and the more time you spend filming, the less time you have to sell it. Don’t waste time planning and plotting unnecessarily. Get it done!
4. Sell it:
It used to be that to sell a film you had to send a copy of it to every film distribution company by mail. Well, you still do. Talk to everyone you can. E-mail everyone you can. Get your film into everyone’s hands that you can. Use the internet to your advantage and put the first five minutes of your film on Youtube. Do anything you can to drum up interest in your movie. Making a movie can be done if you just do it!
