Upgrade your laptop by doing your own CPU installation.

1. Disassembly:
There must be no electrical power to the computer. Remove the battery. Afterward, remove the cover strip first. Then remove the indicator lights strip. The indicator strip is right in front of the monitor hinges. Most times there is a screw holding it in. After removal of the indicator strip, then remove the keyboard. At this point, you can get at the WiFi card to remove it. Now you can see the heat sink and CPU. Remove those by unscrewing the screws securing the fan. The heat sink and fan come out as a unit.
2. Cleaning:
Clean the fan as best as you can by using a blower or canned air. Clean the heat sink with a damp pad. This cleaning pad should be lightly soaked enough to get a good wipe on the heat sink, but not enough to leave excess moisture. At this point, you can see the CPU. You may have to clean the old, dried and fried thermal grease off of the CPU. There may also be some of it on the heat sink. This grease can be scraped off with the flat edge of the screwdriver.
3. Installing The CPU:
Unlock the screw on the socket by using a small flat head screwdriver. Rotate the screw to the unlocked position. This is indicated by an unlock symbol on the socket. Once it is unlocked, remove the CPU.Look for the triangle on the new CPU. Likewise, locate the triangle on the socket. Align the triangles and insert the CPU into the processor socket. Get your flat head screwdriver again and rotate the retaining screw to the locked position.Wipe the CPU with the pad. Apply a coat of the thermal grease on top of the CPU. Apply enough grease to make a thin coat that will be sandwiched between the heat sink and the CPU.
4. Reassembly:
Reverse the steps already performed to remove the CPU. Reinstall the fan by attaching the connections, and then secure the fan. Reinstall the WiFi card. Follow by attaching the connecting leads for the keyboard and install it. Reinstall the indicator strip and then the cover strip. Put the battery back in place, and the reinstallation is done. Reboot.
