Steps to improve your Computer Skill

1. Computer Skills:
The computer skills that are generally tested are familiarity with Windows, keyboard usage, telecommunications, computer software, networking, Internet and hardware. Windows familiarity includes testing your skills on using windows functions on the computer such as controlling the windows that are in use. Keyboard usage tests your speed on the keyboard and computer networking and hardware will test your knowledge on how to connect computers to a network and knowledge on computer’s parts and functions. Telecommunications and Internet will test your information skills on how to use the Internet and telecommunication functions such as instant messaging and participating in forums.

2. Preparing for the Tests:
Before taking the computer skill test you want to prepare yourself for each segment of the test. The skill test will contain two parts, one is the multiple choice section and then the other is the performance test.Pick out the segments that you think you lack knowledge or skills in and start learning everything about it. For example you will be tested for your ability to use the keyboard. First learn the functions of each part of the keyboard, then practice navigating through the computer without using the mouse, this will strengthen your knowledge on keyboard functions. You should also practice typing and proper finger position on the keyboard so you don’t waste so much time trying to locate parts of the keyboard. It is also important to know all you can about your Windows operating system. From basic control of the windows, like minimizing, resizing, or closing to advanced procedures like configuring your Windows operating system to run faster by turning off functions you don’t need. Try to learn basic use of database and spreadsheets too. This is one of the important sections in the computer skill test. You will be tested on how you retrieve information from a database and how to handle spreadsheets and make graphs.

3. Practice Using Practice Tests:
There are practice tests online that will help prepare you for the computer skill test. It will be similar to the actual test so you can get an idea on how you’ll fair on the test and see which points you have to beef up on. You can keep taking the practice test until you know you’re good and ready for the actual test.
