With the appointment of Mr. Prithviraj Chavan in Maharashtra, the question on people’s mind is – Was he selected in a Democratic Process? As the media has disclosed the CLP has authorised Smt. Sonia Gandhi to elect the CM and the CM was handpicked by the Congress Leader.

However, in a democratic process the right way always is to to ask the CLP to elect a leader among themselves. If they cannot arrive at a name, then conduct a voting process to elect the leader. However, this time, in an attempt to over-rule the elected MLA’s of the people, a decision was imposed and so is the argument of those who say this lead to “death of democracy in maharashtra”.

However, those who support the decision, have a another take on the issue, they argue that the people have voted for the party and being an elected party leader, Mrs. Gandhi has a right to choose the leader and the state CM. Nobody has a doubt on the leaders ability and intension to give a clean and hard working leader in the state. Only time will answer the pros and cons of this decision.
