Indian Premiere League, the 2nd highest-paid league

If you think that cricketers’ wages in the Indian Premier League don’t measure up to what English Premier League footballers make, think again.

According to the inaugural Annual Review of Global Sports Salaries to be published later this week by sportingintelligence.com, the second highest-paid league, based on first-team salaries on a pro-rata basis, is our very own IPL.

Second only to the American National Basketball Association (NBA) league, whose annual average salary is 2.62 million pounds, the IPL’s average salary, calculated over a year, is 2.5 million pounds. It must be remembered that the league is only played over a six-week period, making what cricketers earn for playing Twenty20 matches astounding.

The third highest-paid is American Major League Baseball (MLB), at 1.82 million pounds while EPL comes in fourth, at 1.46 million pounds.

In the 211-team list currently monitored by average first-team pay, Royal Challengers Bangalore comes in at 12th, at an average of 57,833 pounds a week, standing two places above Manchester United.

According to a review of global sports salaries, and the IPL boasts of three teams within the top-30 bracket.

The IPL has edged the English Premier League, who has two teams in the list – Manchester United and Chelsea. RCB is No. 12 (£57,833 per week), and others on the list are Kolkata Knight Riders (£56,445) and Chennai Super Kings (£55,526). At No. 1 is the MLB’s New York Yankees (£89,897).

All data is taken from seasons played or ending in 2009 except for European football clubs.

Space Miner, upcoming iPhone game

PAX East officially came to a close this evening, following three solid days of gaming insanity. The Penny Arcade Expo originally started as a small gaming convention on the west coast in 2004 has grown in to an unstoppable juggernaut that is by far the convention to go to if you’re a gamer. The entire event actually has a fairly interesting history behind it, especially considering its meager beginnings with only a few thousand attendees. But, like most things Penny Arcade touches, (such as the Child’s Play charity) it’s not entirely surprising what a runaway success the event has become.

PAX East is a spinoff of the main west coast PAX (affectionally referred to as “PAX Prime”) and as such, was a much more intimate event. This didn’t stop anyone from having a great time, whether you’re in to pen and paper RPG’s, card games, board games, handhelds, or console and PC gaming, PAX East had something to offer. If you’re an iPhone developer, there are much better events to go to such as GDC or WWDC, but if you’re a gamer of any kind, you really owe it to yourself to at least give some serious consideration to attending the nearest PAX.

Space Miner is getting a substantial update. We absolutely loved the game in our review, forum members are crazy about it, and it’s one of the few iPhone video games I’ve played in a very long time that I enjoyed so much I immediately restarted on the next higher difficulty upon completing the game.

If you’re like me, and have almost extracted everything possible out of Space Miner, you’ll be happy to know that they’re expanding the end-game to include more licenses, weapons to buy, new alien tech to find, and new Plus+ awards to earn. They’re calling this a “HD update”, as in addition to the gameplay tweaks, they’ve also implemented new shaders and other graphical effects to make the game look even better.

But wait, there’s more. If the included difficulty modes weren’t enough for you, they’re also implementing a HardcORE perma-death mode. While there’s no doubt that perma-death gameplay modes aren’t for everyone, I really like the thrill that comes from the potential of losing everything from dying, and judging by the popularity of iPhone rogulikes, I doubt I’m alone on that.

Review of King Arthur – The Role Playing Wargame

King Arthur – The Role Playing Wargame is one of the nicest surprises of the later half of the year. Sure, we’ve reviewed a lot of good games lately but most of them, like Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2 or Dragon Age: Origins, were known quantities when they finally arrived, after months of hype, media presence and attention.

King Arthur comes from Neocore Games, a Hungarian development studio that has also created Crusaders – Thy Kingdom Come, and manages to meld together a light role playing aspect with tactical battles, complex heroes complete with powers and artifacts, strategic objectives, town development and research, while also remaining faithful to the setting of the legend of King Arthur.

The closest thing to King Arthur is probably the Total War series from The Creative Assembly but a direct comparison doesn’t do justice to the Neocore release. The experience of King Arthur is much more structured, much more linear in a way, but also offers more possibilities for meaningful choices than Empire or Medieval. It really is a role playing wargame and a successful initial release for this new genre.

Story Line :

Britannia was without a ruler, Excalibur was set in the stone and no one was able to take it out and lead the people. Arthur manages to pull it out and is proclaimed king. The game emphasizes that the event, as miraculous as it is, had a complex set of effects on the land, awaking long lost fairies in the central woods, raising the power of the Old Faith, getting knights to prove themselves through adventures and making the rulers of the various kingdoms fearful or hopeful about the future. The player is basically Arthur and is in charge of uniting Britannia, recruiting knights, putting armies together, completing adventures and conquering or getting the approval of the various provinces.

All the various characters from the legend of King Arthur, from Merlin to Balin or to Percival, make an appearance and the whole world feels well put together, a combination between an early medieval England and the fantasy world of legends. The power of steel is there but magic can sometimes prove more powerful than the sword and the bow. It’s a good mash up and the people at Neocore are obvious fans of the setting and put a lot of work into integrating it into the wider game mechanics.

Steps to clear Memory Card in a Playstation

A memory card is an important accessory to a PlayStation gaming console. You can save your games on the PlayStation memory card so that after an interruption you can continue playing the current level without having to start over again. There may be instances though when the PlayStation memory card reaches its limit. In this article, we will give you the steps on how to clear a PlayStation memory card.

1. Power on both television and PlayStation. Insert the PlayStation memory card in the slot. Depending on the PlayStation model you have, the slot may be found in the front portion of the gaming console, or right above each of the controller slots. After inserting the PlayStation memory card in the slot, turn on the television and the PlayStation. Make sure that there is no game disc loaded in the PlayStation.

2. Go to the Memory Card Manager once the PlayStation is on. A menu will appear indicating the memory card manager and the CD player. Press the ‘X’ button on the controller after selecting ‘Memory Card’. You will then be directed to a screen showing all the files on the PlayStation memory card.

3. Select the files you want to delete from the PlayStation memory card. Navigate through the files listed on the memory card manager. Press the ‘X’ button on the controller and you will be presented with the options ‘Copy’, ‘Copy All’ and ‘Delete’. Choose ‘Delete’ by pressing the ‘X’ button again to completely get rid of the game file in your memory card. Repeat this process to delete all unwanted files in your PlayStation memory card.

4. Copy the files to another PlayStation memory card. If you do not want to completely delete the files on the memory card, you can still clear its space by transferring the files to another PlayStation memory card. Insert your other PlayStation memory card in another empty slot. Press the ‘X’ button and select ‘Copy All’, or you can manually select each game and choose the ‘Copy’ option. A screen appears listing the available memory cards. Choose the correct memory card and then press the ‘X’ button again to transfer the files to that PlayStation memory card.

5. Now that you have cleared all the unwanted files in your memory card, you can continue playing your PlayStation games and save them as you progress to a new level. Consider getting a second PlayStation memory card so that you can continue playing and saving your games without worrying about space.

EVE Online is a popular sci-fi themed MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) developed and published by CCP Games. The game features over 300,000 active players, four playable races, an intricate in-game economy and space travel. Due to the complexity of the game, it can be difficult for newcomers to begin playing, and even long-time players stand to benefit from keeping these tips in mind.

1. Class:
Create a character with stats best suited for the type of profession you want to pursue. If you are a beginner, it is a good idea to begin with a basic “jack-of-all-trades” character to get a feel for the game’s mechanics and available professions. Fighters benefit from high perception and willpower, traders require high charisma and willpower and all other classes are best suited to high intelligence and memory. To get the most of out the player vs. player element of EVE Online, fighters are recommended. Your character can earn more skill points by serving in the State War Academy. 2. Economy:
Use the complex economy of EVE Online to your benefit and make as much ISK (the in-game currency) as possible. Station at least one of your characters as an agent in an economic hot spot to keep an eye on the market in that area. The key to making significant amounts of ISK is buying high and selling low, and a knowledge of the game’s different markets is invaluable in that regard. Increase your marketing skill to have more items available to you at lower prices, and resell them for profit. Avoid suspicious-looking characters when traveling through the in-game world, since it is possible for other players to rob you. Establish a trade route that is secret and secure.

3. Corporations:
Establish or become a member of an existing corporation. Corporations in EVE Online work similarly to guilds or clans in other MMORPGs and are run by a CEO. Once in a corporation, your peers will often be willing to share their ISK and items with you. You will also have the option of performing tasks for the CEO, who can then pay you. It is also wise to join a corporation to gain the benefit of being part of a large, concentrated effort toward one goal, which makes success in EVE Online more feasible on a large scale than if playing solo. There is also a social benefit to joining a corporation, since you will often play with the same people, and friendships might emerge.

Does your writing class or workshop need some new ideas for a writing project? Try this simple and fun game that gets a person to think on the spot. By creating a few simple subjects with corresponding topics, you can create a fun writing game. This is also a great exercise for writer’s block too.

1. Write down about five to six different holidays or seasons on slips of paper. For example, write Christmas, Thanksgiving, or Halloween, etc. Or you could write seasons such as fall, winter, summer, or spring. Put these slips of paper into an envelope and close it. Label this envelope, “subjects.”

2. Create descriptive or matching words to go with the holidays and seasons. If you are matching Christmas, write stockings, presents, candy, family dinners, etc. To describe the season of winter, you could write snow storm, snowmen, igloos, etc.

3. Make an envelope for each holiday or season. Put the descriptive and matching words into their corresponding envelope. All of the snow words go into the “winter” envelope, and all of the “Christmas” words, go into the “Christmas” envelope. Try to write about 10 words for each holiday or season.

4. Gather a small group of friends who enjoy writing together. Hand out a couple of sheets of paper and a pencil to each person. Have someone draw a slip of paper out of the “subjects” envelope to see what topic everybody will be writing on.

5.Get out the corresponding envelope that matches the subject. If they draw the season of “winter” slip of paper, then get out the envelope that has the winter subjects in it. Pass the envelope around to your group of friends and have them pick out a slip of paper. Do not let them share what it is with anybody. Do this until everybody has taken a slip of paper.

6. Set a timer for ten minutes. Have everybody write a poem or thoughts down about their topic on the slip of paper. Once the ten minutes has passed, everybody must put down their pencils. Go around the table and have everybody share their poem or thoughts.

4. Put the computer games back inside their original casing or the storage device purchased in Step 1. Computer game damage most often occurs when they are simply laying around uncovered and exposed to the elements.

5. Make backup copies of the computer games. Just in case there is irreparable damage to any disk.

The Demo of Just Cause 2 released

Square Enix, through its London studios, has announced that a demo for its upcoming Just Cause 2 will be launched on the Xbox Live service from Microsoft, the PlayStation Network service from Sony and on Valve’ Steam on March 4 for those who wish to sample it on the PC. The game itself will be outed on the same platforms on March 23 in North America and three days later in Europe. The demo version of Just Cause 2 will allow the player to experience the open world aspect of the game by delivering a 35 square miles area taken from the Lautan Lama Desert, complete with sun-drenched landscapes and towns, villages, military bases and a complex network of missions.

The complete game offers more than 400 square miles of terrain to explore. The developers are saying that the list of vehicles, which can be used includes “tuk tuks, military 4x4s, armored vehicles, mopeds, helicopter gunships, light aircraft, mini vans and numerous other military and civilian vehicles.” Lee Singleton, who is the general manager of London Studios belonging to Square Enix, said that “The Just Cause 2 demo is simply massive and with so much to do, the replay value is enormous. It’s easily one of the biggest freeroaming demos of all time and for fans of openworld games, it’s unmissable.”

In Just Cause 2, the player stars as Rico Rodriguez, the most capable agent of the CIA. He must get to the archipelago of Panau in order to track and then capture his ex boss, Tom Sheldon. Things go downhill fast and Rico finds himself fighting a variety of enemies as he searches for clues related to his situation. The game will deliver the player two very interesting toys: the grapple gun and the parachute. The former can be used by Rico to tack onto just about any passing vehicle, from a jeep to a jumbo jet, while the latter allows him to get out of hairy high-altitude situations. The combination looked like a lot of fun from the developer videos and gamers will be able to try out possible combinations in the demo.

Gather several packages of paperclips and spread them out on the table. Set the clock for 15 minutes and see who can create the longest paperclip chain. Many young girls will save the paperclip chains made at sleepovers and wear them as necklaces commemorating the experience.

Each girl sits on the floor with a plate to the left of her left food and another plate to the right of her right foot. Between her feet are 10 walnuts. Use a stopwatch to see who can complete the task in the shortest amount of time.

4. Checkers:
Checkers is a classic board game that uses two players who try to capture the opponent’s game pieces. Whoever runs out of game pieces first loses. The girls can play checkers using Skittles as prizes for the girl who wins each round of the game.

5. Mirror-Free Makeover:
Both girls sit down in a room with their makeup bags but without any mirrors. Set the clock for 10 minutes and ask the girls to put on their makeup without using a mirror. When time is up, see who was able to do the best job.

6. Truth or Dare:
Truth or Dare is a sleepover classic that many young girls enjoy playing. One girl asks the other, “Truth or Dare?” The girl will then respond by asking for either a truth or a dare. If she chooses a truth, she is asked a personal question that she has to answer honestly. If she chooses a dare, then she must fulfill a dare of the other girl’s request.
