This is first settled by a small party of Polynesians. This islandÂ is one of the youngest inhabited territories on Earth and for most of its history it was the most isolated inhabited territory on Earth……………

This island is of total 700 kmÂ south-west of Sri Lanka. Twenty-six atolls of the MaldivesÂ encompass a territory featuring 1,192 islets, roughly two hundred of which are inhabited by local communities.
Originally the inhabitants were Buddhist but their was also Islam that were introduced in 1153. Later it became a Portuguese in 1558, Dutch in 1654, and British in 1887 colonial possession. In 1965, the Maldives obtained independence from Britain…………….

It served as a lighthouse, which isÂ then a military fortification, and then a military prison followed by a federal prison until 1963 year when it became a national recreation area. Juan de AyalaÂ was the first European who discovered this island in 1775 & he named the island as “La Isla de los Alcatraces” which means “Island of the Pelicans”.

The installation has been occupied by associates and family of Paddy Roy Bates who are a former radio broadcaster and former British Army Major, who claims that it is a sovereign and independent state…………….
